Tommy Hilfiger: the american dream is preppy

Tommy Hilfiger is an American brand of elegant sportswear, an icon of the American preppy style of the 50s. With garments with versatile and practical lines, the brand offers a Tommy Hilfiger women's clothes collection, including jackets and wool trench, monochromatic or patterned, quilted jackets and padded gilets, sweatshirts with mock neck or monogram applique, up to knitwear with cardigans , classic t-shirts with monogram or one color and sports tops with cut outs: therefore versatile models with a wide fit. The collection continues with casual shirts, mini or midi skirts, pants and jeans, more sporty velor dresses or more elegant stretch cotton velvet, up to women's underwear. The brand also offers a line of women's shoes with sneakers, leather boots, sandals and heeled shoes, as well as a line of women's bags, with clutches, shoulder bags or wallets. Also for the Tommy Hilfiger men's clothing line, the proposal is versatile and casual, including jackets and quilted jackets, as well as waistcoats, tailored pants or casual jeans, t-shirts, jumpsuits, knitwear and polo shirts, up to cotton shirts, monochrome or patterned, and men's underwear. The men's collection also includes a line of men's shoes, with sneakers, boots and lace-up shoes, and a line of men's accessories with bags and belt bags.

With collections with understated design, distinguished by colors such as white, red and navy blue, symbols of the brand itself, Tommy Hilfiger is the image of minimal conceived as elegance and practicality, with a simple soul but with particular attention to lines and materials. The brand therefore speaks to large masses without ever losing sight of quality and recognition, proposing a very specific lifestyle consisting of sweaters around the neck combined with blazers, pleated skirts and coats of arms, creating looks with a Modern Preppy inspiration with influences from different cultures and making the final product contemporary and suitable for all generations, boasting collaborations with models such as Gigi Hadid and Zendaya, or with sportsmen such as Lewis Hamilton. In addition to supporting inclusivity in the fashion industry, such as with the People's Place Program, and various global and social causes, especially thanks to the TommyCares initiative and the Tommy Hilfiger Corporate Foundation, the designer also deals with sustainability, creating in 2019 a line of 100% recycled cotton jeans.

Initially focused on men's fashion, Tommy Hilfiger began his career in the sector in the late '70s, selling a stock of jeans purchased in New York on the hood of the car. Visionary designer, strongly influenced by the rock and hippy style of the period, he then opens Peolpe 's Place, his first boutique similar to a concept store, between black walls, incense and loud music. Despite the great success the boutique was forced to close its doors in 1979, but Hilfiger's now popular talent led him to receive numerous, albeit brief, proposals including an offer from Calvin Klein, however rejected by the designer on the advice of a seer. The indication will prove to be correct, leading him to the meeting with Mohan Murjani, entrepreneur and king of Indian textiles, and thus creating the first line of sportswear by Tommy Hilfiger, with the famous logo inspired by the nautical style. Thanks to the advertiser George Lois, the brand becomes a competitor of the already famous Ralph Lauren and Perry Ellis and subsequently, thanks to exponents of the American hip hop scene, the brand becomes definitively known to the public, leading to the opening in 1998 of the first flagship store in New York. In 2010 the Tommy Hilfiger company was acquired by PVH, leaving the creative direction in the hands of the designer.
