On the other, the absolute grace of the French ballet flat. Put them together and you get the collaboration we never knew we needed: Birkenstock x Repetto. Ladies and gentlemen, ballet has found its footbed!

What happened

On July 16, 2026, with little warning, the drop landed. The first-ever collaboration between the two houses was born under the wing of BIRKENSTOCK 1774, the German brand's Paris-based special-projects line, the one that fishes for collaborators and ideas outside the usual waters. This time it fished inside the house of Repetto, the classical-dance shoemaker founded in 1947 by Rose Repetto. Two worlds that could hardly be further apart, with one piece of common ground: savoir-faire, the artisanal know-how both have guarded for generations.

Three models, at a glance

The collection is made up of three shoes that translate ballet into the Birkenstock language. There is the Arizona, the iconic two-strap sandal, here with oversized round buckles. There is the Scala, a round-toe mule with two slender straps and a tied bow. And above all there is the Opéra, the showpiece: a sabot with long ton-sur-ton ribbons that wrap around the ankle exactly like a ballerina's slippers — removable bow included. The touch that drives Repetto purists wild? The footbed lining in Vichy check (the gingham beloved of Brigitte Bardot), a signature of the French maison. Glossy patent leather, suede or natural leather, sizes EU 35-42, in three statement colours: Icon Pink, Flame Red and Profound Black.

Why it works (even if it sounds impossible)

On paper it is a short circuit. In practice it is the perfect marriage between two obsessions: the grace of dance and the science of comfort. “The grace of ballet with the science of comfort,” says Birkenstock; “two iconic houses, one savoir-faire,” replies Repetto. The 1774 concept celebrates the moments beyond the stage — recovery, everyday movement, lightness — and rides the balletcore wave that has shown no sign of slowing for a couple of seasons now. Bows, ribbons and powder pink on one side, cork and ergonomics on the other. Rare stuff.

There is really only one question: Birkenstock comfort and a ballerina's soul, could you ask for more? We say no. And judging by the styles that sold out within hours of launch, we are not the only ones who think so.
